Kids Soccer Drills: Who Else Wants To Warm Up
It’s amazing to see that the value of warming up in kids soccer drills is underestimated. It is obligatory for me as a coach to highlight the fact that warm up sessions before practice is compulsory and helps players begin their day at a brilliant note. In youth soccer drills, this point is easily skipped by many coaches. The consequences are then faced by the players when they suffer injuries in training.
In this article, you’ll find some useful tips on warming up the players. Teach the players to warm up by following those body movements that help all muscles to work up. This is the right way to wake up the entire nervous system. If the movements are intense, body could become stiff or develop cramps.
Tip 1: This requires the players to do an easy 5-7 minutes jog. It is advocated that players begin printing only after a light jogging. In this, the pulse rate should reach 120 beats per minute. But, slow improvement is better. Then make them swing their legs forward cross-body for about 10 times each. Lastly, have them actively stretch their body over 20 yards.
Tip 2: Having said that, do remember that even this active stretching over 20 yards comes with some warm up drills of its own. For example, make the players skip forward and backward. The players can also be taught cross stepping. They must also be taught high-knee carioca. You can have these performed similar to sprinting.
Running towards the back also accounts a very efficient warm up drill in soccer drills for kids. Yet, the correct method of doing it is to rise up the heels to the butt. It’s actually tough to practice it like this but there’s no choice as it’s the single most and right way of doing it.
Tip 3: There are other essential warm up exercises in kids soccer drills that build up the momentum to the actual session. You can direct your players to play with circles and hoops. These result in giving an extra edge to the skipping exercises. You can also make your players do the intersecting skipping. Quick Hip Swings is somewhat difficult to practice but it highly useful and a tried and tested technique to warm up the body.
Subsequently the players can be made to do long shuffle with spins midway. Make them practice forward and backward leg swings. It’s a very efficient activity and helps in toning the body. High leg forwards and backward is just as efficient in toning the body.
Tip 4: Stretching should be adequate and correctly executed. The legs benefit the most out of stretch hinge. Ensure that every kid works out hamstring, quadriceps, groin and calf without exceptions. Stretching has the benefit of preventing injury along with increasing the muscle range.
It is also essential to note that in soccer drills for youth, kids abstain from overdoing anything. They have the tendency to get carried away in excitement and injure themselves as a result.
